OUR STORY

Our company was born out of a shared love for theater and a chance meeting in a Facebook group. In 2023, Margaret—a lifelong theater lover who had spent years on stage and behind the scenes created “Bring Community Theater Back to Medford, MA.” She didn’t know exactly what would come of it, only that she missed the magic of live performance in her hometown and hoped others did too.

That group brought together the four of us! all Medford residents who care deeply about our community. Danielle and Robert, both theater professors at colleges in the city, saw the post and immediately connected with the vision. Jim, a scientist with a lifelong love for the arts, joined too, bringing fresh eyes and boundless enthusiasm. Soon we were meeting in the little conference rooms at Margaret’s apartment building, sharing ideas, swapping stories, and discovering that we had more than just theater in common we were building a genuine friendship.

What started as conversations about shows and stages quickly grew into late-night laughter, shared meals, and a bond that feels more like family than a board. Each of us brings something different to the table but what ties it all together is the joy we find in working side by side.

We didn’t just create a theater company. we found each other. And together, as neighbors, friends, and artists, we’re committed to bringing theater back to Medford in a way that celebrates both the art form we love and the friendships that make it possible.

I am originally from Braintree, MA, but I have been living in the Somerville/Medford area for about 20 years. I received my Ph.D. in Drama from Tufts, and have been Professor of Theater and Humanities at Fisher College since 2003. In terms of my own love of the performing arts, I’ve been dancing since I was 3, and singing and acting since soon after. My favorite productions include Into The Woods, Cabaret, Chicago, The Importance of Being Earnest, The Crucible, and Angels in America. I’m so happy to join this fabulous team of people to bring more theater to Medford!

I wasn’t born in Medford, but it has become my forever home since I moved here and fell in love with the city 12 years ago. I have a Ph.D. in Theatre from the Ohio State University and am Professor of Theatre Arts at the University of Massachusetts Boston where I teach, direct theatre productions, and served a four-year stint as Department Chair. I love theatre deep down to my bones, and over the years I have served as an actor, designer, director, dramaturg, fight choreographer, and producer. Over the years, I have directed many productions, including Romeo and Juliet, The Wizard of Oz, Aristophanes’ Lysistrata, Frank Winters’ Student Body, and more. I am delighted to work with this team and friends throughout Medford to build an exciting community theater. I hope you’ll join us!

Hi! I’m Margaret — President of Mystic Players Revival.

I was born and raised in Medford, MA, and theater has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. My mother was a singer her entire life, and I was lucky enough to grow up surrounded by music, creativity, and a whole lot of show tunes. I performed with Arlington Children’s Theatre, Medford Public Schools drama club, and just about anyone who would let me sing. Theater and singing weren’t just hobbies — they were the only things I truly knew how to do, and they gave me a place to feel at home.

I also grew up with a grandfather who did so much for this community and believed deeply in helping others and just being a good person. That stuck with me. For a long time, I asked myself how I could carry that same spirit forward in my own way — and eventually, the answer came. I started a small group called “Bring Community Theater Back to Medford,” and with a lot of heart, a little chaos, and the support of my amazing board members, Mystic Players Revival was born!

We’re more than just a theater company — we’re a family. I’m so proud of what we’re building here in the city that raised me, and I can’t wait to share it with all of you!

Scientist by day, ballroom dancing martial artist by night. It’s been a long time since I’ve participated in shows directly, but I’m hoping to bring my unique mix of skills and pluck to the table to enable community-enriching theater in Medford! When not pursuing quijotic endeavors you can usually find me adventuring outdoors or with my nose in a book (sometimes both)
